instructions, and frequently asked questions.
APK Instructions
Side loading BTT Recorder through an APK is recommended for MAST facilitators who are planning to work in a remote area with limited or no internet access. This can be tricky for people new to the experience, so we've put together a useful guide to get you through the process.
1. Download
If you haven't already, go ahead and download the .apk file.
2. Choose File Location
When the download is complete, save the .APK file to a removable storage device, such as a flash drive or mini sd card.
Be sure the ports on your device are compatible with your removable storage. Once it's been copied over, you may eject the device.
3. Transfer your Files
Insert your storage into your tablet and open the file browser. If you don't already have one, we recommend Browser Application.
Find the removable storage in your file explorer and locate the .APK file. Once you've found it, copy it over to your application folder. See the image below for reference.
04. Installing BTT Recorder
If this is your first time installing an .apk file, you'll need to grant device access to installing unknown applications. Don't worry - this is normal and doesn't mean anything malicious is happening.
You can then open the application from wherever you downloaded it to. The last thing you need to do is grant device permissions to BTT Recorder.
It requires the following permissions:
- Read and Write files: BTT Recorder actively makes recordings and needs a way to store them. It also needs access to local files created in order to play them back.
- Microphone Access: We use the microphone to capture audio when the user starts recording their translation. It is only active on the recording screen.
